Foods to help your skin Glow

A healthy lifestyle and routine start in the kitchen. With the right skincare routine and diet, your skin can have a consistent glow all year round. If you are trying to improve your skin, it makes sense to consider foods with supportive ingredients to help enhance your glow even more! 

Why is food powerful for our skin? 

Skin is the largest organ in our body – so keeping it glowing is not always easy. If you are using a solid skincare routine, especially incorporating our Luminous Serum, then it’s a great idea to add some extra foods to your diet to help your skin glow from the inside out. 

What fruits can you add to your diet to help with your glow?

Lemons

Includes Vitamin C, highly acidic

What do they do? Brighten skin-tone & work against the effects of ageing.

Ways to ingest them? Drink hot lemon water first (especially first thing in the morning), add lemon in smoothies or juices.

Watermelon

Includes nutrients such as Vitamin A, B & C & rich in antioxidants

What does it do? It’s a natural electrolyte so it deeply hydrates you. When your whole body is well-hydrated, your skin can also get the internal hydration it needs.

Ways to ingest it? Juice it or cut it up into fruit salad (yummy either way).

Mangoes

Source of Vitamin A & Vitamin C 

What do they do?Clear blemishes & boost collagen production.

Ways to ingest them? Can apply them directly to your skin as a face mask; slice & eat them; or drink as juice.

Oranges

Huge source of Vitamin C  

What do they do? Brighten skin-tone, lighten dark spots, clear acne scars & address uneven skin-tone.

Ways to ingest them? Drink or eat them.

Blueberries 

High in antioxidants, fibre & nutrients

What do they do? Fight inflammation and premature ageing; clear skin-tone from acne, psoriasis & eczema.

Ways to ingest them? In your skincare routine (something new coming to Nalia soon), eat them whole or include them in your smoothies.

Tomatoes

Rich in Iyocepene, an antioxidant that helps repair damaged skin 

What do they do? Reduce the appearance of pores, calm inflammatory process and reduce redness.

Ways to ingest them? Eat them, juice them or include them in a soup!

Strawberries 

High in Vitamin C, antioxidants & salicylic acid, supporting skin appearance 

What do they do? Protect us from UV damage and collagen destruction, & reduce hyperpigmentation.

Ways to ingest them? Clean them thoroughly by placing in a bowl of water/vinegar and salt for at least 20 mins & eat whole.

Apples 

High in antioxidants, flavonoids & phenolic compounds - gaunt skin from oxidative stress 

What do they do? Reduce appliance of acne, wrinkles, dull skin & dark circles.

Ways to ingest them? Eat them or include in juices / smoothies.

Pineapple 

Vitamin C & Amino acids / Bromelain an enzyme that softens skin

What does it do? Helps skin stay firm and flexible; repairs tissue; & helps body synthesise collagen.

Cucumber 

Rich in minerals and Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C & Vitamin E 

What does it do? Great to keep your skin hydrated as it is 96% water; it cools skin & calms irritation.

Ways to ingest it? Eat in salad or include in your green juice with some lemon, ginger and celery!

Contain natural oils and proteins 

What do they do? Moisturise the skin, prevent blemishes & wrinkles.

Ways to ingest them? Natural face mask for 10 mins then wash off, eat or drink them!

Nuts, including: Walnuts, Almonds, Brazil Nuts

Seeds, including: Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Pine Nuts

What do they do? Reduce inflammation in the skin; great for healthy heart & glowing skin.

Ways to ingest them? Snack on some. Tip: keep a bag of nuts in your bag so when you are peckish on the go you always have a yummy snack handy!

Green Tea 

Includes Vitamin B2 & Vitamin E

What does it do? Supports new cell growth & collagen levels with intense hydration 

Ways to ingest it? Pull out your favourite teacup and enjoy!
